Wow, the weekend in Portland was so hot! I’m glad to be back in Seattle where hanging out in the shade means feeling at least 10 degrees cooler than being in the sun.

This morning on the #10 bus, a really normal looking guy in his 20’s was rocking out to that really really annoying song by Pink. You know, it goes like this “feel the rain of your kiss, nothing…” lalala I don’t know the rest. He was jammin’ to this song! It was so loud and there were a ton of people on the bus and you could still hear the song ringing from his ipod earbuds. Haha!

The next few weeks are really exciting. I'm very happy that summer is finally here. Next big thing coming up is CapHill Block Party and that is sure to be great fun. Also, Cairo Gallery has a new exhibit opening this weekend so I will most likely head to that too.

I’m addicted to rum drinks! Here is a picture of a drink I saw in the newest Bon Appetit.

I have to make this drink at some point this coming weekend!

Goombay Smash

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes
  • 6 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup Malibu rum or other coconut-flavored rum
  • 2 tablespoons light rum
  • 2 tablespoons gold rum
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • 2 pineapple wedges
  • 2 orange slices

Preparation

  • Fill cocktail shaker with ice; add pineapple juice, orange juice, and all rum. Cover and shake until very cold. Fill 2 short glasses with ice. Strain cocktail mixture over, dividing equally. Garnish with pineapple wedges and orange slices.

Yesterday, Brian and I headed to Easy Street to pick up my ‘reserved’ copy of the Fleet Foxes on vinyl. I was so happy to realize that the record also included the Sun Giant EP. We began to feel hungry and never could figure out a place to eat in Queen Anne, so we hopped on a #18 heading towards Ballard. Surely something would be open in Ballard but no…of course not. The Farmers Market was wrapping up when we arrived so we walked over to Senor Moose which was closed until dinner time, La Carta closed as well. We finally found a sandwich joint, The Other Coast, where we ate some deliciously huge sammies. Brian ordered the Ragin’ Cajun - peppered turkey, pepper jack cheese, red peppers, salsa mayo, tomatoes and onions. It was so freakin’ amazing! I ordered the sub-par chicken salad sandwich on sourdough bread…I don’t know why I didn’t like this one but I know I’ve definitely had better. Chicken Salad sandwich is probably my favorite sandwich in the whole world so I’ve definitely had better.

The opening of Cairo was probably the best gallery opening I’ve ever been to. Maybe because I knew so many people there but the crowd was so nice and filled with people I’ve seen walking around Capitol Hill. The occasion was a fashionable one that included hipsters and non-hipsters, a tub filled with ice cold PBR, and plenty of gorgeous art. I want to inquire about a piece but I’m afraid I will have to buy it once I ask. Dang.

The weather is retarded. It rained hard off and on from 830am-245pm. The time is now 621pm and the clouds are breaking up and I think I see sun glowing over the Puget Sound. Okay, it’s time to leave work.

i'm volunteering for SIFF right now at the harvard exit. the weather looks so grim from in here. dark and cold. i'm not looking forward to my bike ride home. i woke up early enough to get to joe bar at 930am, order my pre-paid double short latte and enjoy the delicious savory crepe that they make so well. i was sitting outside enjoying my food when an older woman walked by and said to me "well at least you are enjoying the spring". well i don't know if i'm enjoying the spring all that much but i'm trying to make the best of it that's for sure.

tonight is the opening of joel and justine's gallery called cairo. it's opening was announced in a daily candy email. props to your good pr skills dudes. i have a feeling the party will be fantastic. the pic above is by aaron osborn. his show titled make me one with everything is to be the first of many exhibits to be shown at cairo.

hopefully after that i can try to check out the midnight movie at the egyptian called sukiyaki western django by director takashi miike. jermaine is a fan of his work so maybe we can get him to come out too.

i think it's time for another double latte.
