Okay, I’m feeling you writers. Last night I had the fortunate pleasure of seeing a writer friend at the movies, we caught up with each other at the end of the movie and when I asked how was life was treating him he said “shit, I am getting paid 85% less than I was getting paid last year”. gulp! Rachel was with me (she is the reason why I know this fella) and she could sympathize too. She is an excellent writer, completely knowledgeable in all forms of electronic music and 90’s indie rock, and freelances for fantastic music and culture magazines. After hearing them talk a bit more about how the writer’s life blows and how print is slowly disappearing, I couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.

The only magazines I subscribe to are Bon Appetit and most recently the New Yorker. I get a free subscription to Ready Made and Brian get’s a free subscription to Tape Op. I read the New York Times online every single day, hell I barely pick-up a free copy of The Stranger because I read that publication online too. Is my lack of buying printed publications keeping my friends from doing the one job they love best? How can my little effort help turn this fading industry around?

aw, that is sweet! at this point i don't know what individuals can do to save print. i think you read more mags in print than most people actually.
