back alleys of san francisco

i really want to attend the outside lands music festival in san francisco. radiohead, beck, wilco, mward, tom petty, broken social scene, sharon jones...the list goes on. the new york times just wrote up a great review about the city on the bay. i've never been further south than portland maybe this will be my time! i have a free flight (finally!) on continental so i want to use it wisely. tmagazine's latest issue is called travel spring 2008. i'm ready to go somewhere new!

i used to know a guy that would shorten all the major cities names to two letters. i met him in my german 4 class at austin community college. my friend, jessica camp, and i could not stand his contemptuous way of speaking. he would tell us about his galivanting across the north american continent as a dj and say things like "when i was in SF..." or "once, i was on 4 tabs of acid in nyc..." . it seems silly now that we were so annoyed by his banter but then one day he asked me "how are you liking a-u-s?" A-u-s or was he saying Aus? what the hell is that short for? australia? seconds later i realized that he had shortened austin to it's aiport code name "AUS". this fuckin guy! haha! i don't remember his name but i won't ever forget his idiosyncrasies! sometimes i catch myself saying "pdx" and i laugh.
